The Justice Journey Alliance, Leadership Foundation of Chicago (JJALFOC), invites you to the inaugural Imagine Justice Juneteenth Commemorative Walk on Thursday, June 19, 2025.
The purpose of the Juneteenth Commemorative Walk is to acknowledge, educate, empower, and unite all Americans by celebrating freedom and honoring the legacy of enslaved people in the United States known as Juneteenth. Enslaved people were declared free under the terms of the 1862 Emancipation Proclamation. The commemorative walk promotes awareness through recognition, observance, education, and historic preservation, emphasizing shared history and the ongoing journey toward equality.
This 2.5-mile walk begins at 31st Street Beach, proceeds north to 18th Street, and returns via the Lakefront Trail. The distance honors the 2.5-year delay in freedom reaching the last enslaved people in Texas following the Emancipation Proclamation.
A portion of each registration supports the National Museum of African American History and Culture.
Check-in: 7:30 AM | Walk Begins: 9:00 AM
