BEYOND WORDS: Count Us In Kick-off Assembly

On September 25, cities across the U.S. will host liturgies of repentance for pastors to admit their indifference to racial justice and to commit to practicing anti-racism in five different areas in partnership with an African American congregation.

The Beyond Words: Count Us In Movement recognizes that the historical church reaction to facing a racial crisis has been ineffective in producing any real and lasting change. Often, the church’s response has been mostly words, whether through position papers, sermons, or pulpit exchanges with leaders of color. What is needed now is to mobilize our faith communities to take action and to address the root causes and effects of America’s national sin of racism.

This Coast-to-Coast and Nationwide Assembly launch event is connected to a year-long process of relationship building between pastors and their congregations representing each city. Pastors will huddle up once-a-month to share stories, and receive support from one another, track lessons-learned and share best practices to advance the cause of addressing structural injustice and systemic racism here in Chicago and across the nation.

It’s Time – To Move From BEYOND WORDS To Action!!!
